The most beautiful (and unique) hotel facades in the world from The UK's Daily Mail. From an ancient rocky cliff face to a graffiti mural and even a living wall.
Remember that old adage that 'it's what's on the inside that matters'? That may be true, but when it comes to choosing a hotel to stay at, impressive exteriors are part of what attracts us to select a property in the first place.
From boutique accommodations that aren't afraid to have fun with colour to a one-of-a-kind hotel built into the side of a cave, The UK's Daily Mail rounded up the most intriguing and beautiful hotel facades around the globe.

U.S. hotels expected to spend record $6Billion this year on capital expenditures
A newly published study by Bjorn Hanson of the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism at the NYU School of Professional Studies predicts that a record-setting $6 billion will be spent in 2014 by the U.S. lodging industry on capital expenditures for remodeling and improving both guest rooms and public spaces.
Hanson says the spending increase is driven by deferred upgrades and improvements going back all the way to 2009 (no surprise there). Even though 2013 was a record year for remodeling and upgrades, 2014 is expected to beat that record with hoteliers' efforts to comply with brand standards and respond to consumer feedback on social media.

New study by Cornell University: LEED-certified green sustainable hotels make more money than non-LEED ones
A new study by Cornell University has found that hotels gain a revenue benefit when they are certified under the LEED sustainable building program.
The study compared the performance of 93 LEED-certified green sustainable US hotels (the number for which operating data were available) to that of 514 comparable (but non-LEED) hotel competitors, and found that the certified hotels obtained superior financial performance.
The hotel industry has embraced environmental sustainability. By comparing LEED certified green sustainable hotels with a competitive set of non-certified hotels, the study found substantial increases in average daily rates and revenue per available room for the LEED hotels.

10 Top Classic Las Vegas Restaurants from Forbes: Vintage Guide For Hungry Visitors
Okay I totally love almost everything about this list, quirky and eclectic, a lot of old school, and varied price ranges. Some of my personal hidden gem faves aren't on here (like Triple George Grill downtown), but I see a whole group of lounges and diners and restaurants I've missed that I have to try the next time I'm in Vegas!
"Surviving in Sin City is tough, which is why the few true Vegas classic eateries that have lasted are so impressive. Longevity in the restaurant business here is something to brag about, and the tried and true usually stays that way for very good reasons."

"Prisons, plantations and more: 10 Hotels with storied pasts", from USA Today and Oyster
Great article on unique conversions around the world, from USA Today and Oyster. (Too bad our local BrewHouse Suites Hotel in the former Pabst brewery and bottling factory building or our local Iron Horse Hotel in the old Coakley shipping warehouse weren't considered…maybe one of them was number 11?)
From prisons to plantations, the 10 hotels on this list were once the sites of quite different operations, and all have storied – whether eerie or interesting or just downright weird – pasts.

Herman Miller to acquire Design Within Reach
Interesting, I remember not so long ago when DWR was trying to break into contract/hospitality via their retail consumer showrooms…
"This combination expands our reach in the higher margin consumer sector and we have identified multiple points of strategic leverage that will benefit our other segments and operations, as well as Design Within Reach own growth plans.”

'Millennial Travelers' ....A Hard Sell for Hotels Despite All the Wooing
"Hey, it isn’t all about refurbishing the hotel lobby and placing a touch-screen in there. Millennial guests demand great customer service from staff, and they will quickly sour on a hotel if the staff isn’t up to par." — Dennis Schaal
Despite all of the rhetoric about lifestyle-hotel brands and big chains going all-out to capture the allegiances of Millennial travelers, they are proving to be more critical of their hotel stays than other guests, especially if it is the first time they have experienced a specific hotel brand.

Just completed by LeFerForgé Hospitality: double drapery rod system for The Brice Savannah - A Kimpton Hotel
Here's an example of understated modern drapes on Le Fer Forge Hospitality drapery hardware. Notice the sheers peeking out between the left and right drapes. You might not know it was Savannah GA, but you can certainly tell it's a Kimpton.
Gotta love their doggy-friendly Very Important Pet program, and their nightly wine hour for human guests, too!

Just completed by LeFerForgé Hospitality: large arc 2-pole drapery rod system for Washington DC Marriott - Wardman Park
Here's an example of the skill and craftsmanship used on a regular basis at Le Fer Forge Hospitality in drapery hardware to tackle a tough installation. Notice the bay window in this luxury hotel suite. The sheers and drapes can open or close on a pair of independent rods that are both bent in sweeping elegant arcs to match the bay shape while mounted on dual support brackets to the inside of the window frame. Topped by a matching fabric header that also follows the same bend.
Le Fer Forge (LeFerForge.com) is the only drapery hardware manufacturer in the US that bends hotel drapery rods to order in house ...and without seams or gaps ...and does it in rustfree stainless steel or aluminum , as well as iron.

Let's hear an 'AMEN' from everyone in A&D and manufacturing and procurement: "Now’s the Time to Renovate"
Improved business means higher cash flows, and many owners and operators —the smart ones, anyway are using some of their windfalls to undertake renovation projects, some of which were long overdue thanks to the industry’s recession-fueled downturn during the last decade.
There’s probably no financial excuse for rejecting the idea of a renovation.
